Accessibility Statement for 2017

Here at The Falcon House we try to provide for the needs of all our guests within the limitations of a Grade II listed building that is also our family home. The Bed and Breakfast rooms are in the converted granary attached to the rear of the main house. There are two ground floor rooms and four first floor rooms, but as there are some changes of level to access all rooms, the accommodation is unsuitable for those with very restricted mobility or for wheelchair users.

We are located approximately 5 miles from Ross-on-Wye and 9 miles from both Hereford and Ledbury. There is no regular bus service, so the use of a car is essential.

There is ample off-road parking at the rear of the property near the entrance to the B&B. We will always offer assistance with luggage on arrival. The parking area is gravelled and the entrance is approached by a paved path leading to a step into the reception area. There is a number of motion-sensitive outside lights and the entrance is well lit at night.

The reception area has non-slip ‘karndeen’ flooring with a coir door mat. There is also a guest fridge, leaflet racks and a book shelf. The door to Room 1 is located off this area. The hallway leads on up one step to a small lobby area where the flooring changes to carpet. The door to Room 2 is located off this space. There is a single flight of 11 carpeted stairs leading up to a landing. There is a single right-hand rail. The landing turns and the entrance to Room 3 is on the left. Room 4 is located at the end of the corridor. Rooms 5 & 6 are accessed by a step up onto a carpeted landing area.

All our bedrooms are en-suite with walk-in showers. The two ground floor rooms have a step or two steps down to enter the room. The first floor rooms are on a level. The bedrooms are all carpeted with floor rugs. There is a variable amount of space around the beds, but the rooms are not suitable for wheelchair users. There are ceiling lights and two bedside lights in each room. All rooms have a remote TV, radio alarm and hospitality tray with cordless kettle.

The doors to the shower rooms are approx 70 cm wide. The shower rooms are lit with spotlights or down lighters and shaver lights. The showers have a step up to enter of approx. 15 cm. The en-suite to Room 1 has a step up of approx 20cm to access the room. The shower to Room 2 has an additional step up into the shower cubicle.

As we live on the premises, we are nearly always on hand to offer assistance. There are emergency numbers in the room information folders with hospital and local doctor contacts. The property holds a full fire certificate with smoke alarms and emergency lighting. There is a night bell by the door marked PRIVATE on the first floor.
